Inspect the paintwork, bumpers, and mirror housings for scratches and dents (and add them to the protocol)Check the windscreen closely for stone chips or small cracksHave the awning fully extended once (check for tears, mildew, and smooth mechanism)Check tyre tread depth and general condition (no cracks or bulges on the sidewalls)

Exterior Tech (Electricity, Gas & Water)

Ask them to show you the location and operation of the fresh water filler and the grey water drain valveCheck accessories: ensure the CEE power cable, domestic adapter, and cable reel are on boardCheck that levelling ramps (for parking the motorhome horizontally) are includedCheck the gas bottle levels (are they full? Is the level noted on the protocol?)Ask for a demonstration of the gas changeover system (e.g. Truma DuoControl) and the crash sensorCheck the condition of the toilet cassette (is it empty, clean, and stocked with sanitary chemicals?)

Interior & Living Area

Open and firmly close all cupboards, drawers, and latches (to prevent rattling while driving!)Test all habitation windows (pull the blackout blinds and fly screens up and down once)Ask for an explanation of the main control panel (where do I see water levels? How do I turn on the water pump?)Check the fridge is working (does it switch between 12V, 230V, and gas?)Have the drop-down bed or lounge bed conversion demonstrated (do the rails jam?)

Cockpit & Base Vehicle

Test the air conditioning, windscreen wipers, and all vehicle lightsGet a briefing on the base vehicle’s quirks (automatic gearbox, releasing the handbrake)Check that the reversing camera and navigation system work properlyWrite down the exact vehicle height, width, and gross weight on a sticky note in the cockpit (watch out for low bridges!)
